International Knowledge Sharing Program Between Universitas Pekalongan, Indonesia and Lincoln University College, Malaysia

The International Knowledge Sharing Activity was successfully conducted on 19 November 2025 at the Main Auditorium, Lincoln University College (LUC), Selangor, Malaysia. This international engagement aimed to strengthen academic collaboration and enhance practical learning in the field of herbal and natural product sciences. The initiative was guided and supported by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hazrina Hamid, Dean, whose leadership played an essential role in enabling this program.

The program began with welcoming remarks from both institutions, followed immediately by a hands-on formulation session led by the LUC academic team. This session highlighted LUC’s expertise in modern herbal product development, specifically through the preparation of a Nano Herbal Moisturiser. Participants were introduced to practical formulation steps, including ingredient selection, preparation of herbal extracts, incorporation of active compounds into nano-based systems, and the formation of a stable emulsion. This practical-first approach allowed delegates to gain immediate exposure to advanced herbal formulation techniques, demonstrating LUC’s strong capability in contemporary herbal product research and innovation.

The delegation from Universitas Pekalongan, Indonesia consisted of four senior academic representatives:
Apt. Siska Rusmalina, M.Sc, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy
Apt. Metha Anung Anindhita, M.Sc, Vice Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy
Apt. Kharismatul Khasanah, M.Pharm.Sci, Vice Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy
Dr. Apt. Mahfur, M.Farm, Head of the Apothecary Professional Education Program

Following LUC’s hands-on demonstration, the Indonesian academic team presented their knowledge-sharing session on Indonesian Jamu, led by Apt. Kharismatul Khasanah, M.Pharm.Sci. The session explored the cultural and historical background of jamu, traditional herbal classifications, and its continued relevance in Indonesian healthcare practices. This academic presentation offered students a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage behind Indonesia’s traditional medicine.

The event then proceeded with a practical Instant Jamu (Jahe Instant) Workshop, facilitated by Dr. Apt. Mahfur, M.Farm. Participants learned the entire preparation workflow—from ingredient cleaning and grinding to boiling, filtering, drying, and packaging. This workshop allowed participants to experience first-hand the traditional approach to herbal drink formulation, complementing the modern techniques demonstrated earlier by LUC.

The program concluded with closing remarks, an exchange of appreciation, and group photographs to commemorate this successful international engagement.

This International Knowledge Sharing Program strengthened academic connections, promoted cultural appreciation, and enhanced participants’ understanding of both modern and traditional herbal formulation methods. Both institutions expressed strong interest in continuing collaborative initiatives through joint research, student mobility, and community-based herbal innovation projects.
