Lincoln University College participated alongside universities such as the University of Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), International Medical University (IMU), MAHSA University, and Manipal University College Malaysia at the Medical Intervarsity Debate Competition (MIDC) 2025, hosted by AMSA UPNM in collaboration with Wira Wira Malaysia, from 14 to 15 June 2025.
Throughout the competition, participants tackled a wide range of thought-provoking and timely issues that reflect the evolving landscape of global healthcare. From the ethics of fetal personhood and the future of universal healthcare vs. national social insurance, to real-world dilemmas like whether governments should prioritise preventive or curative care. Other topics included the debate over contract versus permanent positions for doctors, the need for reform in medical journal publication policies, gender equity in research, and how nations should adjust health policies in response to global crises.
Every round challenged debaters to think critically and communicate with precision. These debates pushed students beyond textbooks, encouraging deep engagement with the ethical, medical, and societal dimensions of healthcare—showcasing exceptional critical thinking and communication throughout the competition.
