On Sunday, 21 June 2026 — Father’s Day — the School of Health & Applied Science (SOHAS) at Lincoln University College did something different. Instead of waiting for the community to come to us, we went to them.
Discover HEALS Open Day 2026 was held at Court B, Imago Jaya Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya — a busy, accessible, family-friendly public space where everyday Malaysians shop, eat, and spend time with their loved ones. For one full day, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, we transformed that space into a free, interactive health and wellness hub — open to absolutely everyone.
A Day Built for the Community
The idea behind Discover HEALS was simple: health education should not live only inside a classroom or a clinic. It should be where people are — in the community, in conversation, in action.
More than 460 visitors walked through our doors throughout the day. 180 of them registered for free health screenings, receiving complimentary blood pressure checks, glucose tests, BMI assessments, and SpO2 readings — all delivered by trained SOHAS students under the supervision of qualified academic staff. For many visitors, it was the first time they had received a health check outside of a hospital setting.

What made Discover HEALS truly special was its breadth. Across seven interactive stations, SOHAS departments came to life in ways that surprised and engaged the public:
At the Health Screening Village, visitors discovered what their numbers really mean — and why early detection matters. At the Physiotherapy Station, the public participated in a 3 Minute Walking Test, learning firsthand how something as simple as walking pace can reveal important information about cardiovascular health.
The Biomedical Corner drew curious visitors to microscopes and anatomy models, where students explained the science of blood typing and the lifestyle factors behind conditions like liver cirrhosis. Next door, the Nutrition Detective Challenge turned healthy eating into a game — with visitors guessing the shocking sugar content of everyday Malaysian drinks and building balanced plates using the Suku Suku Separuh model.
The Agriculture Station brought the outdoors in, with live soil comparisons, corn plant displays, and an interactive quiz wheel that proved farming science is anything but boring. The Ancient Apothecary invited visitors to smell medicinal herbs, learn traditional pulse diagnosis from our TCM students, and receive free Ayurvedic wellness consultations.
Students at the Centre of It All
Discover HEALS was not an event staffs. It was designed, set up, and run almost entirely by SOHAS students — from the early morning setup at 10:00 Am the night before, to the final pack-down after 6:00 PM.
Students in nursing, biomedical science, biotechnology, nutrition, agriculture, physiotherapy, sports science, Ayurveda, and TCM all took responsibility for their stations, engaged directly with the public, delivered health advice, and represented Lincoln University College with remarkable professionalism. Several students delivered HEALS Talks on the main stage — speaking about their clinical experiences, their departments, and their passion for healthcare in front of a live public audience.
For many of them, it was the most meaningful practical experience of their academic year.
HEALS Talks — Knowledge Shared Freely
Throughout the day, the main stage came alive with nine HEALS Talks covering everything from blood groups and Biotechnology to traditional Chinese medicine and the science of daily wellness routines. Highlights included Dr. Jayasree’s engaging session on blood types, a community Zumba session that had the entire atrium moving, and Dr. Syamimi’s challenge — “Can You Outsmart a Nutritionist?” — which drew one of the largest stage crowds of the day.
Every talk was delivered freely, clearly, and without jargon — because that is what community health education should look like.
More Than an Event
Beyond the health screenings and the station activities, Discover HEALS generated something harder to measure but just as important — genuine connection. Students and staff spoke to members of the public as equals, not as patients or prospective enrolees. Parents asked questions about their children’s health. Families learned something new together. And more than a few visitors left the event with a clearer sense of what a career in health and applied science could look like.
The event also generated 16 confirmed student recruitment leads across stations — with many more brochures taken for future consideration. But more than the numbers, the real outcome was trust. Trust that Lincoln University College is not just an institution — it is a partner in the health of this community.
