On 8 October 2026, the International Symposium on Emerging Trends in Linguistics and English Language Studies was held as part of the International Academic Exchange & Professional Development Programme, organised by the School of Education, Lincoln University College, Malaysia.
The symposium brought together academics from Urgench State University, Bukhara State University, and Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan, to explore how digital communication and artificial intelligence are influencing language use and learning.
Presentations examined diverse topics, including English slang and informal language in digital communication, code-switching in academic and social contexts, and politeness strategies in students’ interactions with AI chatbots. Other sessions highlighted metacognition and student autonomy in the age of AI, as well as the use of AI-assisted tools for vocabulary learning.
Further contributions addressed common grammatical errors in undergraduate English writing, first-language influences on English pronunciation, medical terminology, and the development of cognitive competencies through teaching technical drawing.
The day concluded with a panel discussion and academic exchange between LUC faculty and students, linking research presentations to broader questions about language, learning, and teaching. The symposium fostered cross-disciplinary dialogue and strengthened institutional collaboration, reaffirming support for SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
